Writing the story
We decided to expanded the story at this point include information about the dramatic transformation of North Georgia which occurred in the 1820s and 1830s. This historical story unfolded slowing until the discovery of gold in 1828, when the expediencies of profit began to push state policy in an aggressive way. Another goal for this lexia was to address the tension between the "myth" of wealth imbedded in the gold rush story and the more likely reality of yeoman agriculture. We intentionally foreshadowed our intent to emphasize the yeoman farmer with the title of the lexia.
