Our understanding of Ethel and Asaph's religious beliefs and convictions is rooted in a number of resources. Ethel mentioned her participation in a church singing group, the Singing Society at Macedonia Church in Buffington, in a May 26, 1895 letter to Asaph. She also held closely a collection of several religious hymnals and subscribed to periodical song publications. Asaph, for his part, demonstrated his religious convictions by also collecting religious paraphernalia. We also have an unattributed hand written note, likely written by Asaph, about a sermon that is a seemingly clear indication of, at least, Asaph's interest in religion.
