Writing the story
The relationship between Asaph and Dr. J.R. Hopkins is interesting. Hopkins appeared to take on the role of a mentor. We thought the Hopkins / Perry story might even suggest some larger theme - possibly a formal apprentice / master like story, as such, a vintage representation of a fading cultural concept - or maybe it was a father / son story, which would, of course, make the story even more powerful. Certainly the story is at minimum, emotional, and as such we were compelled to include it.
